Ceramic sculpture, 'The Beautiful'

Graceful and beautiful, this sculpture is inspired by the Virgin Mary and symbolizes life and fertility. "In part I based this sculpture in the different portrayals of Mary and other Virgins in the Cuzco School of Religious Portraiture, " explains Gilberto Salas as he sculpts the image in ceramic. "In Peru, Virgins are often portrayed in a triangular shape representing mountains. The Inca's belief in Pachamama (Mother Earth) is closely related to the Christian's Virgin Mary. That's why I painted a colorful cloak on this pregnant Virgin Mary." Titled "La Bella" in Spanish.
